By Nancy Rivard

Our Airline Ambassador team will provide training in Bucharest, Romania on March 28/29, 2019. Training’s will be provided at the Radisson Blu Hotel for hotel employees, uber drivers and the hospitality community, at SELEC Headquarters, the Airport and the US Embassy. From the 2018 Trafficking in Persons Report “Romania is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to forced labor and women and children subjected to sex trafficking. Romania is a significant source of sex and labor trafficking victims throughout Europe. Romanian men, women, and children are subjected to labor trafficking in agriculture, construction, hotels, manufacturing, and domestic service, as well as forced begging and theft in Romania and other European countries. Romanian women and children are victims of sex trafficking in Romania and other European countries. Romani children, as young as 12 years old, are particularly vulnerable to forced begging and sex trafficking.” See US Embassy invitation below :

Donna Hubbard in ATL

By Nancy Rivard

The City of Atlanta works with multiple partners in the fight to end human trafficking. But sometimes, the most powerful force is the force of one – local individuals who take a personal stand – even if it means working in the shadows of this dangerous industry to save lives.

Pastor Donna Hubbard is one of those people.

Hubbard understands human trafficking all too well. As a younger woman, she was drugged and victimized by a pimp – and sold as property to a gang – who threatened her children if she tried to leave her life of sexual exploitation.

Ironically, it was a stint in prison that set her free. And from that experience, she created Woman at the Well, a group that provides counseling and training to formerly incarcerated women and girls.

She has shared her story of hope and transformation at the United Nations and all over the world. Through her work with Airline Ambassadors International, Hubbard teaches front line airport personnel how to spot potential victims in what is literally a crime against humanity.

What’s worse, Hubbard says, is that many people who have been trafficked are typically victimized twice – once by the people coercing them – and a second time by the criminal justice system, where they are often prosecuted for crimes they were forced to commit while under duress.  That’s what led her to her work with the Fulton County Community Court and Toriarn Weldon, an investigator for District Attorney Paul Howard. Over the years, Hubbard and Weldon forged a unique and unlikely partnership that has helped hundreds of victims of human trafficking.

On March 9th she will participate at an Awareness training in Waycross, GA and check out this new video shot Jan 29, when she joined  Torian Weldon and Kathryn Griffin on the streets to document trafficking in Atlanta. Also at #EndHumanTraffickingATL.

Nepal 2019

By Nancy Rivard

“Many have never thought of going to Nepal…until they go to Nepal.  Then, they can not wait to return!” –
Mary Wotanis, AAI volunteer 2016,2017, 2018

A Nepal Mission is for you….IF you are looking for adventure, joy, the opportunity to make a positive difference and the experience of being warmly welcomed into another culture!

Mary returning to big smiles and warm hugs!

2019 AIRINTERMED DATES:

March 30-April 11
May 29-June 10
September 11-23
October 25-November 9
From the moment you walk out of Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by a member of our support team from Mission Himalaya.  You’ll be driven to your comfortable accommodations at either the Hotel Tibet in Lazimpat or the Maya Manor in Naxal where you will be warmly greeted.
Day 1  – you will be treated to a typical Nepali dinner….and dancing!
Day 2  – you will experience a city tour with stops at World Heritage sites like Swayambhunath and the Durbar Square.
Day 3  – you are off to the EcoHome for Orphans to meet 28 wonderful children and their very caring staff.

EcoKids at Chandragiri…taking their first cable car ride to view the majestic Himalayas

MISSION DATES….and DIFFERENCES:

March 30-April 11
The Eco-kids will be out of school for the majority of your time at the EcoFarm.  This is your chance to play, teach, explore, and have the BEST time with them.  You will be guided by Abhaya Khanal (or alternate member of the Mission Himalayan support team) who will serve as your escort, interpreter, problem solver and general great guy.  He’ll let you know what is most needed, wanted and/or will be the most fun!
This mission is a fairly open template to design as best fits your experience, expertise, energy and effort!  It can include day trips to surrounding villages and the Namo Buddha Monastery and offers lots of time to enjoy the EcoKids!
Brian and the EcoKids on a much enjoyed special outing!
May 29-June 10 and September 11-23
These dates offer a variety of experiences.  As the Ecokids will be in school, your time with them will be more limited….BUT you will be able to:
*  join them at their school to participate with classes and share your expertise on… your culture, your country, your state…your choice!  Your options are limitless.  As most the the older children at this school (Baylor International Academy) have a good command of English, you will not be too hampered by a language barrier and can enjoy teaching…and learning from them!

*  help at the very poor government school near the EcoHome to participate in their classroom activities.  This is a much different…and very rewarding experience!

*  hike to Namo Buddha Monastery to meet young monks and help them with their English.
* If needed, you can help out at the nearby Medical Clinic.

Again, this program will be guided by your escort from Mission Himalaya to optimize your total experience!
Leah, Abhaya and Katie with a class in the government school

Delta’s in flight video 2019

By Nancy Rivard

Delta is intensifying its efforts to raise awareness of human trafficking ahead of the Super Bowl coming to Atlanta.

Weeks before the big game and its fans descend on Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta (NYSE: DAL) has launched a new in-flight video and enhanced signage to guide passengers on how to spot human trafficking.  The city of Atlanta estimates the event will draw in more than 1 million visitors, with increased traffic around the Mercedes-Benz stadium, downtown business areas and the Atlanta airport.

In Atlanta, trafficking has consistently climbed, with 98 reported cases in 2012 to 276 in 2017, according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

Atlanta is a hotbed for the activity for several reasons. It’s home to the world’s busiest airport, hosts major conventions and events and has an extensive highway system.  New signs are being rolled out across the airline’s major hubs in advance of the Super Bowl to educate the passengers on trafficking indicators.

“With over 56,000 employees trained to identify trafficking indicators, we are introducing a customer awareness campaign that will unite us all – sending a clear message to traffickers that they are not welcome on our planes or in our airports,” said Allison Ausband, senior vice president of Delta’s in-flight service.

Delta partnered with Polaris, an anti-human trafficking non-profit, to launch human trafficking training last year. The company has trained 56,000 of its employees to watch for signs of forced labor or sexual exploitation on flights or in airports, and roughly 500 of the airline’s employees will volunteer at the Super Bowl to help detect any potential victims of human trafficking.

The campaign was created in collaboration with Polaris and uses a young boy’s narrative of human trafficking to ask customers to #GetOnBoard.

The airline intentionally chose to feature the campaign on its in-flight entertainment systems to “heighten customers’ awareness of a scenario potentially transpiring in the row in front of them,” according to a press release.

It also provides the number for the National Human Trafficking Hotline, a resource for victims and communities, which is sponsored by Delta. The video is part of the airline’s broader effort to help fight human trafficking, which dates back to 2011.

Bravo to Delta as a leader in the fight against human slavery. We hope Delta will join the End Human Trafficking ATL Summit

Spring Mission to the Philippines

By Nancy Rivard

Hello everyone!

We’re so excited to announce the dates for our Spring Airline Ambassador mission trip to the Philippines! Join us as we visit the children of Abatex Dumpsite in Manila and the Shepherd of the Hills Children’s Foundation in Zambales. Below is a basic itinerary of what you can expect on our trip: April 29 – May 6, 2019

April 29th- Leave the U.S. for Manila

April 30th- Arrive in Manila and spend the night at Greenhills Elan Hotel (not included in price).

May 1st: Visit the children and families at Abatex Dumpsite. We will be providing lunch for the community, swimming or going on an excursion. Airline Ambassadors helps sponsor a feeding program for the families in the area throughout the year. Last fall, we were able to partner with the Jaimie Sheth Foundation to open up their very own feeding shelter. After our activities we will return to Elan Hotel where you are free to have dinner on your own (meal not included).

May 2nd-6th- Travel approximately four hours by bus to Shepherd of the Hills Children’s home (SOTH). We will be spending four nights and five days enjoying many planned activities such as swimming, hiking, educational workshops, excursions, arts and crafts projects and playing basketball. We are here to simply build relationships with and love on approximately 50 of the world’s greatest children (in our humble opinion). Airline Ambassadors has been visiting SOTH for many years now and sponsors children within the community as well.

May 6th- Head back to Manila. We will arrive at approximately 5pm to Greenhills Elan Hotel. This is the official end of the mission’s trip so you are free to book travel plans that night or the next day.

The approximate cost of the trip will be $650 including a non-refundable $100 deposit.

This price includes:

-meals at Shepherd of the Hills

-bus ride to SOTH

-transportation to and from all excursions

-housing at SOTH

-donations to the feeding program at Abatex and Shepherd of the Hills

This does not include:

-Flights to and from Manila and transportation to and from the airport.

-Hotel in Manila before and after the trip (Three nights total if you plan to stay the night of the 6th, approximately $50-$75 a night. You are responsible for making these reservations but we are happy to help!)

-A few meals and snacks along the way (Approximately $10/meal)

-Shopping

-Any cash donations you would like to give to these organizations are always welcomed and greatly appreciated!

Once you sign up a more detailed itinerary will be sent out. We really hope you consider joining us for this life-changing trip! If you have any questions please reach out to:

Chicago Dept of Aviation

By Nancy Rivard

An AAI team of Nancy Rivard, Shamere McKenzie and Andrea Hobart provided our second all day training at the Chicago Dept of Aviation. Here are som of the comments from 36 new Airport Security gaurds:

The instructors had my attention from start to end.

Good handouts, but I was so into this topic that I took 3.5 pages of hand written notes.
Great presentation. Full of useful information.

Traveling public should be aware of the information.
Very informative, very touching testimonies.

Shamere kept the training lively and interesting!
Shamere was a great speaker, very inspirational.

Thanks to Nancy, Andrea, Marian and Rebecca for their
information, so very informative. Keep up the great work!

Nancy and all the speakers are subject content experts who were able to explain in detail information that should
be taught to every law enforcement academy as well as all airport employees across the country. Very insightful.
Very good class, I learned so much.
This was not only a training, but a life changing experience. Opened up my eyes!

It takes a lot of courage for Shamere to tell her story, hats off to her.

It was great to have Marian Hatcher from the Cook County Sheriff’s office join the training which was Airline Ambassadors second training with the American Association of Airport Executives.

Press Release on Wings of Love

By Nancy Rivard

HUMAN TRAFFICKING ACTIVIST &

FOUNDER OF AIRLINE AMBASSADORS INT’L TO RELEASE MEMOIR

Arlington, VA, December 12, 2018 – Nancy Rivard, founder of Airline Ambassadors International and recipient of the 2018 United Nations Human Rights Award will release her memoir, “Wings of Love,” in 2019. The funds for the project, which aims at inspiring people to bring love into action at a global scale, will be raised through a crowdfunding campaign.

In “Wings of Love,” Rivard shares the story of her journey to her life purpose, which led her to start Airline Ambassadors International. AAI is the most successful non-profit in the airline industry, saves millions of lives, and began the fight to stop human trafficking in 2010. It also led Rivard to marry the man of her dreams!

The main themes — fulfilling one’s destiny by being of service, and finding true love, echo two of the most burning desires of men and women all over the world.

“People don’t really learn from facts and figures,” Rivard explains. “The best way we can shift their perspective — to something larger than themselves — is to give them a personal experience or a story through which they can live vicariously. I am writing “Wings of Love” because I want to inspire people with a story that will move their soul. Hopefully, the Wings of Love book will inspire readers to ask themselves the essential question: ‘How can I serve?”

In “Wings of Love,” Rivard opens up her heart and reveals the good and the bad, the happy moments and the heartbreaking challenges, the unexpected traps, and the powerful lessons. The memoir makes a case for kindness, compassion, and generosity as inherent features of the human soul as opposed to the world being portrayed as a place of hatred and separation. Rivard’s memoir leads the readers on a journey across continents, from hip California to refugee camps in Kosovo, to poverty-stricken El Salvador. Readers will meet extraordinary people–unknown heroes, spiritual teachers, and former heads-of-state such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Grandfather David, Spiritual Elder of the Hopi’s, famous Clown Doctor, Patch Adams, visionary biologist, Elisabet Sathouris, Congressman Tom Lantos, the Dalai Lama, Bishop Tutu and Deepak Chopra.

“I believe that earth is actually a schoolroom for us to continually reap the effects of our actions until we realize that it’s a never ending cycle,” says Rivard. “Frankly, it gets boring to live only for ourselves. After enough experience we realize that it is only through caring, sharing, and bringing love into action that we feel fulfilled. As each of us finds our unique way to serve, our unique talent to share, we can change the world for the better,” she adds.

Since 1996, when she founded Airline Ambassadors International to make a positive change in the world, Rivard has helped millions of orphans and vulnerable children and human trafficking victims. Now, she relies on the help of others to bring her new project to life. “Wings of Love” is more than a book, or the story of someone’s life. It is a tool for us to build a global tide of good will,” she says.

The proceeds from the crowdfunding campaign will be used to cover the costs of the technical aspects of publishing ‘Wings of Love,” as well as the marketing campaign that will include a book launch tour in the US.

***************

Holiday Escorts 2018

By Nancy Rivard
See below this not from Aicha to Coordinator Margaret Whitehead.
“Bonjour Margaret,
How are you?  We landed this morning in Paris.  Qatar Airways is definitely an amazing airline with a competitive aircraft and a high level of customer service.
The girls were so nice, quiet and easy. Massoma threw up before landing in DOH and also before landing in CDG.
We requested assistance upon arrival and took 2 blankets from the flight in order to put them on the floor to change her diaper. IT WAS A BADLY NEEDED CHANGE!
Poor Massoma! She was wearing a dress and she had only a pajama for unique clothing. I used the only 2 diapers she had in her backpack so I asked Laury to purchased some at the pharmacy.I met Kathy at the police office in T2A with Abdul. It was great. A beautiful couple those 2 buddys.

We met Laury and Natacha, shared some key words and we boarded them to the PHL flight.
Fortunately, one of the crew speaks Arabic (Zaccharia)
I am so happy for the girls. They deserved both help and care.
Thank you again to give me the opportunity to help children in need. I am tired but I feel so good (after a shower) and after a mission like this.
Attached are some pictures we took during this trip… and I forgot to mention that we understood each other. Better than with Sadeq. Some words were different but they understood me and I understood them.

Warmest regards,

Aïcha TOUAHRIA, Cdg.SecurityLeads, Paris CDG
Note from Margaret – Here is the darling pic made in Grand Rapids as Natacha and Laury handed the twins over to their host parents in GSP.  I think Childspring is making a Christmas card out of it for social media.
Also see below emails from Natacha who escorted the twins to their host families:

Hi Margaret !!
The twin sisters are with the host family now !! The Gates !!
Such nice people.
That escort was a great experience.
With Laury, we would love to be the 2 escorts for the twin sisters on the way back to Cdg !!! Or Qatar.
They’re we’re so cute and so strong.
Not only flight attendants were in love with them but passengers too !!
Best regards,
Natacha
Here us the report from Linda Blixit about kids that came to the US from Poland for holiday visits with host families:
“From Poland to pizza…it was a great day with  two fine young gentleman who arrived happy yet hungry!!   Arak and Bartek were so enjoyable to get to know as we waited in the Rotunda for continuing flights at Ohare Airport.
Arak… the jokester. ..who we believe knows more English than he lets on to… settled right in…enjoying hats to handouts including sweets and socks…~ While Bartek..a future marine biologist… who can converse in at least four languages …held such mature discussions one would think he has lived in the States all his life.
Soad was so generous to everyone…~ keeping us all on point.  Meantime… Andi, George and myself enjoyed the sheer essence of anticipation waiting for our guests of honor to arrive.  As we said our goodbyes…heading to our individual gates…we all realized this bittersweet moment will be one treasured forever.  Once in Atlanta Bartek felt instantly at home returning to his host family…greeting Mark and Michelle with a big reunion hug~ he is now officially ready to take on the Game of Throne series, the holidays, a trip to Florida, and even some snow sledding during the next month with his host family ….in his home…away from home!  Goodbye Bartek!  Until we meet again~xo
