Call To Action
eCampaign -- Southern
Africa
School is starting and
we can make a monumental change this year!
With one, 100% tax
deductible donation you
can
empower women and
families and
promote
conservation of the
environment by
providing
fuel-efficient, low
carbon
emission cook-stoves
for
households in southern
Africa!
Each
stove is $340 and
enables one child to go
to
school through grades
1-12. We
are
committed to sponsoring
5000
cooking systems to the
urban poor. Please
consider
sponsoring as a family,
as a
team, or as a
group. We would
like
schools to encourage each
of
their classrooms to sponsor
a
cook-stove and a child's
education.
The
cooking systems you provide
to
these families are comprised of
a
highly-efficient stainless steel
cook-stove,
fry pan, cooking pot,
toughened
glass lids and a thermo
pot.
This system heats food or
water
with an 80% reduction in fuel
and
boasts a very low smoke
emission
as compared to
traditional
charcoal stoves.
In
Africa, the urban poor must pay a large amount of their income on
fuel.
These
cook-stoves save much of that expense with the added benefit of
reduced
pollution and deforestation. Ordinarily, a great amount of
wood is
needed
to produce charcoal. These new cook-stoves require only a small
amount
of twigs, which can be gathered without cutting down trees.
This
program
will encourage women to use these savings to send their child to
school,
and engage in micro enterprise opportunities. They can
generate
more income
to feed their families and escape the cycle of poverty.
We invite you to join Reaching
Hearts for Kids, ECHO Aid
Australia, and Airline
Ambassadors in supporting the
UN's
Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) for fostering self-reliance and
independence in countries needing
long-term economic
solutions to poverty.

families,
Southern Africa Communities, and save the environment with one

Thank you for your generous support!

Bravo to:
Brad King and Extreme Response!
Home
and playground construction, games
and
activities with children and the elderly,
and
aid and supplies delivered were just a few
of
the accomplishments of a 24 member trip
to Ecuador in
August.
A
family that makes their living by pulling
recyclables out of the
garbage at the
Zambiza dump in Quito
has a new home
now. "Team 1", in
the mission group, was
able
to complete their new house which
includes their first
stove and oven. Before,
"Maria" cooked over an
open fire.
Now, they have their first shower (with tile) their
first
hot water for the shower and the kitchen
sink.
In addition, the team purchased furnishings
for
the entire house -- couches, chairs, tables,
beds,
and dressers. They brought bed linens and
clothes to fit each
family member as well as their
extended family members.
Brad
continued to report:
The
activities for Team 2, for the week of
Aug.
4 to Aug. 11, were as follows:
1.) Day Care at Zambiza Dump - 30 children plus 12
young
men from Casa Gabriel made a field trip to the
Zoo
along with the teachers from the Day Care. For
most
of the 30 children, and all of the 12 young men,
this
was their first Zoo experience. Children and their families
were given a total of 200 gifts such as toys, socks, etc.
2) Hogar de Ancianos - Senior Center - 48 residents
and
the team played games and gave the residents
gifts
of personal hygiene and clothing. The team
spent
time with these folks and loved them! 3) Casa Gabriel - 12
residents age 15 to 20 years
old.
This is a home for former"street boys". Our team
helped them paint their
rooms in their house. Our team
connected so well with
these young men that they also
came
out to help build the house and hold a
carnival.
4) Nuevos Amigos - Child Development Community
Center. Held a
carnival for about 150 children
complete
with games and prizes - lots of prizes.
Most of the team returned to Omaha from Quito on
August 11, tired, but with the knowledge of a job well done.
Bravo to Brad King
and his Team of 24! |
