Haiti - more help needed as situation deteriorates!

Needed:  Water filters, medical supplies, and food!

Latest news:

Reported by an Airline Ambassadors' Haiti Mission Coordinator:

"my correspondent in Haiti... informed me that the situation is worsening there, especially in Gonaives , where people are dying due to lack of food and water. Some are still on the rooftops, unable to enter their houses, where everything has been lost."

AAI established the Haiti Fund and we continue to collect donations!

Please visit our site, select the Donate Button, and indicate:

"Haiti Relief Effort" in the memo section.

Thank you for your continued support!

Tremendous thanks to MAP International for providing medicine and supplies valued at $109,000.00!

And...thank you to our donors and members who are sending supplies to NY for shipment.   There is no deadline for accepting supplies or donations.   Visit our eCampaign for shipping details.

Happenings

Airline Ambassadors, LDS Charities and Military Join Forces to Bring Aid to Colombia

On September 24, 2008, 30,000 lbs of hospital supplies (valued over $1M) will arrive in San Juan del Guaviare thanks to the combined efforts of the Colombian Army and the Colombian National Police.

AAI put together this unique collaborative effort with the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) Charities in Colombia after a call for help from the US Civil Affairs personnel stationed in So. Colombia in April.   LDS Charities in Salt Lake City, UT generously provided over 40,000 lbs of medical aid for this hospital.

Over 50,000 lbs still awaits shipment from Homestead Airbase in Miami to Colombia.  Please read the Press Release.

Tepoztlan.   Distributing school supplies, interacting with local children at their new school http://www.ixayaschool.com/, visiting the Ashram orphanage of Tashirat http://www.tashiratkids.org/. AND touring a magical town full of mysticism and tradition.

How do you feel about mixing the rewards of humanitarian work, with hiking along cobblestone streets, and visiting a 16th-century fortress-convent?

During your stay, you can visit Cuernavaca, known for its colonial architecture, you can enjoy the therapeutic waters at the swimming resort Agua Hedionda, or you may wrap yourself in the culture, and try delicious regional dishes.  If this isn't enough... Tashirat offers Yoga retreats for those who might be interested!

Bravo to:

Trinh Bui-Kokkoris!  Trinh leads Viet Nam mission and sets up the        Viet Nam Disabled Children's Fund.

Trinh will be leading a very special Airline Ambassadors' sponsored "Compassion Tour of Viet Nam" in March 2009.

During this trip, participants will visit physical rehabilitation centers, peace villages and families with disabled children (most affected by Agent Orange/dioxin, a defoliant used during the Viet Nam War) as well as extraordinary places in Hanoi (Ha Long Bay), Hoi An (ChinaBeach), Hue City and Ho Chi Minh City.   Trinh explains that volunteers will even "rejuvenate" during the trip with yoga classes!

AAI has set up the Viet Nam Disabled Children’s Fund. Proceeds will go to selected Agent Orange programs that participants will visit during the trip.

Please visit her Travel Calendar posting for details about the trip and how to donate to the VNDF fund.

Children's Escort Volunteers

Terri Bobbitt, American Airlines Flight Attendant, escorts Natalia:

"My day with Natalia during her journey home to her family in Santo Domingo was

such a precious gift from God. He gave me a wonderful glimpse of a sweet and brave

little girl...His little girl...full of love and laughter for herself, her family in St. Louis,

and the family she so eagerly couldn't wait to be reunited with....."

Please enjoy Terri's story...
