Nepal 2019

By Nancy Rivard

“Many have never thought of going to Nepal…until they go to Nepal.  Then, they can not wait to return!” –
Mary Wotanis, AAI volunteer 2016,2017, 2018

A Nepal Mission is for you….IF you are looking for adventure, joy, the opportunity to make a positive difference and the experience of being warmly welcomed into another culture!

Mary returning to big smiles and warm hugs!

2019 AIRINTERMED DATES:

March 30-April 11
May 29-June 10
September 11-23
October 25-November 9
From the moment you walk out of Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by a member of our support team from Mission Himalaya.  You’ll be driven to your comfortable accommodations at either the Hotel Tibet in Lazimpat or the Maya Manor in Naxal where you will be warmly greeted.
Day 1  – you will be treated to a typical Nepali dinner….and dancing!
Day 2  – you will experience a city tour with stops at World Heritage sites like Swayambhunath and the Durbar Square.
Day 3  – you are off to the EcoHome for Orphans to meet 28 wonderful children and their very caring staff.

EcoKids at Chandragiri…taking their first cable car ride to view the majestic Himalayas

MISSION DATES….and DIFFERENCES:

March 30-April 11
The Eco-kids will be out of school for the majority of your time at the EcoFarm.  This is your chance to play, teach, explore, and have the BEST time with them.  You will be guided by Abhaya Khanal (or alternate member of the Mission Himalayan support team) who will serve as your escort, interpreter, problem solver and general great guy.  He’ll let you know what is most needed, wanted and/or will be the most fun!
This mission is a fairly open template to design as best fits your experience, expertise, energy and effort!  It can include day trips to surrounding villages and the Namo Buddha Monastery and offers lots of time to enjoy the EcoKids!
Brian and the EcoKids on a much enjoyed special outing!
May 29-June 10 and September 11-23
These dates offer a variety of experiences.  As the Ecokids will be in school, your time with them will be more limited….BUT you will be able to:
*  join them at their school to participate with classes and share your expertise on… your culture, your country, your state…your choice!  Your options are limitless.  As most the the older children at this school (Baylor International Academy) have a good command of English, you will not be too hampered by a language barrier and can enjoy teaching…and learning from them!

*  help at the very poor government school near the EcoHome to participate in their classroom activities.  This is a much different…and very rewarding experience!

*  hike to Namo Buddha Monastery to meet young monks and help them with their English.
* If needed, you can help out at the nearby Medical Clinic.

Again, this program will be guided by your escort from Mission Himalaya to optimize your total experience!

George, Ronnie and Kim help the EcoKids with their homework.
October 25-November 7
This mission is a blend of experiences as the EcoKids will be out of school for several days celebrating Tihar.  You will be able to celebrate the Dog, Sister, Brother and other festivals with them….a real treat AND be able to experience the government school, Namo Buddha Monastery, and more.
Romy, Abhaya, Pundhi and the EcoKids celebrate the Dog festival during Tehar
You will stay on site at the beautiful new Happy Shepherd’s Cottage….a gift from a former volunteer built in loving memory of her mother.  This cottage offers 3 bedrooms, two with attached bath upstairs, a bedroom with access to a bath downstairs plus a comfortable living/dining area, and kitchen.
