On November 30th, three days after the training Anchorage experienced a major 7.0 earthquake.  Ted Stevens International Airport is still operating but there is damage to the communities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Anchorage and if you would like to donate for the cause you can make a donation here.

Andrea Hobart, Director of our Human Trafficking Awareness program  participated at the 3rd training at Anchorage Airport on Tuesday Nov. 27, sponsored by our incredible friends at JOY International. Here is her report:

ANTI- TRAFFICKING TRAINING

                                            TED STEVENS ANCHORAGE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Hosts:        Jeanette Luckey and Lisa Moore, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

Speakers:  Dr. Jeff Brodsky, Founder of JOY INTERNATIONAL  http://www.joy.org

Robert S., Director of Global Training and Tactical Operations, JOY INTERNATIONAL

Gwen Adams, Founder/Director, PRICELESS ALASKA   http://www.pricelessalaska.org

Andrea Hobart, AIRLINE AMBASSADORS INTERNATIONAL http://www.airlineamb.org

and Flight Attendant with Alaska Airlines

I participated in two sessions on human trafficking awareness with an incredible team from ANC, Joy International and Priceless Alaska. It was an honor to be a part of this team, as these individuals spend their lives fighting for the lives and justice of those enslaved in Anchorage and around the world.

In attendance were local airport workers, law enforcement, ramp agents, airline and airport management and flight operations, flight attendants, customer service agents, vendor workers, wheelchair assistants and many others.

Joy International has a Tactical Operations Team that has extensive background and experience combating human trafficking through rescue operations and the training of law enforcement and task forces globally. This has led to the rescue of thousands of victims of human trafficking worldwide.  This team teaches self-defense to rescue facilities, both to staff and victims of human trafficking and facilitate training sessions for airports, hotels and events.

Gwen Adams is the director of Priceless Alaska, which is a leading force combating human trafficking in Anchorage and throughout the state of Alaska.  They house survivors of human trafficking, providing care, basic needs, assistance, rehabilitation and more.  Priceless Alaska works hand in hand with law enforcement, including the Anchorage Police Department, assisting in the rescue of survivors.  They also have a team which aids in the prevention of human trafficking incidents by using modern technology.

The focus of these sessions was the importance of being situationally aware in our jobs and every-day lives and understanding the reality of human trafficking today. The speakers provided information to help the audience better understand the warning signs of human trafficking and the necessary protocol of reporting suspected incidents.

A big thanks to Jeanette Luckey and Lisa Moore for their excellent administration and for making this day a huge success.”

Letter from Martine Longchamp to Airline Ambassadors:
I wanted to write to personally thank you for all your hard work during the past 6 years to ensure make sure our Godchildren in Haiti have a chance at a better and brighter future. We also wanted you to thank American Airlines on our behalf for their amazing donation of the excess baggage allowance to bring the Montessori materials to Haiti so we could have set-up the classroom. Thanks to our faithful mission coordinators Cindy Sterling and Jose Redondo, we were able to bring 12 suitcases full of  Montessori materials in Haiti on October 19th (see pictures below).
*
Ms. Kathleen Saint Leger, a Montessori teacher, and teacher’s trainer traveled with her family to come and help us set-up the classroom. On November 1, 20018, our children began their Montessori education. We have already seen amazing results in just 2 short weeks. We are hopeful that God, will provide a way for us to open a full school that will provide one of the best methods of education for some of the children in the community.
*
This giant step into fulfilling our vision is due in part to your continued partnership helping us raise the next generation of productive, God-fearing, and independent leaders and citizens. While we can in no way repay you for your generous heart, we are certain that your reward is waiting for you in heaven.
*
Please thank the many donors and volunteers that have come alongside you during these last few years to help us make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of those children in Haiti that would otherwise have no hope for a better tomorrow.
Much love and blessings to you.

Brian O ‘Reilly, a frequent volunteer at Shepherd of the Hills in the Philippines, ventured to Nepal in November to visit the children of the Eco Home with Nepal Mission Coordinator, Kate Jewell.   Brian delighted the children by arriving with two yummy chocolate cakes! He stayed at the Happy Shepherd’s Cottage, enjoyed getting to know the kids, and dance with them at a Thanksgiving bonfire.

By working with our AirIntermed  in country coordinator Abhaya Khanal, Brian was able to arrange a day trip to Chandighar Cable Cars. The children and staff were delighted with their first venture swinging through the air up the mountain, were thrilled with the view of the Himalayas and deliciously happy with their lunch of momos and chicken burgers at 2600 meters!  Before returning down the mountain, Brian treated all to ice cream leaving the children with happy smiles and wonderful memories.

Brian, all of us from the EcoHome thank you and look forward to your return!

Some of us aren’t able to go on trips across the world, but we CAN find it in our hearts to help children.  Through Airline Ambassadors volunteers hand delivering we get to experience the feeling of being there ourselves:

Sandy Ettinger, our AAI Board member, planned to join our mission to Nepal. When circumstances didn’t allow for him to join our team he thought deeply about how to help the children in this location where electricity was not reliable.   Education is critical for the children and suddenly he thought of “Solar Calculators” – they were light for easy transport and could be charged by the sun!  Dr. Kate Jewell, Director of our program hand delivered them on her November trip.  Imagine his delight to see pictures like the one below:

In another example Jolene Bozich, retired United Airlines flight attendant, wrote to us and had beanie babies to donate.  She was thrilled to see the small toys she contributed in the hands of children in Nepal. They were hand delivered with love by our volunteers Teresa Nelson and Diane Gingellon the October trip!

December 15, 2018 will offer a day of holiday food, fun and festivities. This Christmas we are raising funds to support the children and their guardians, human trafficking survivors and families under Fulton County Community Court supervision. The participants will enjoy the Christmas Holiday season at a day of celebration including arts and crafts, lunch, games, face painting and a walk on the “Red Carpet.”  Our community partners this year include : New England Patriots Fan Club Atlanta,  Airline  Ambassadors Intl. , Starbucks, Synchrony Financial, Publix, Kroger , and Wal Mart Union City.  Our party will be hosted this year at the Atlanta Water Works Lodge.

This is the 11th year Woman At The Well Transition Center will celebrate the Christmas Angels Children’s Holiday Event with the theme “THE SPOTLIGHT BELONGS TO YOU” featuring the children in a photo on the red carpet.

Our mission is to assist incarcerated, formerly incarcerated women , those impacted by the criminal justice system and survivors of human trafficking to regain their lives, their families and their dignity

Our holiday event is scheduled for: DECEMBER 15, 2018 1pm – 5 pm. The Christmas Angels Holiday Event is our annual opportunity to show these women, children and their families the love and embrace of community. In advance WATWTC would like to thank you and pray a prosperous holiday season. OUR 2018 WISH LIST: * $5 & $10 gift cards * Unwrapped toys for children aged 1-16years * Monies for transportation, venue, photography and activities costs for 75 children. Story by Sherry Peters – Giving from the heart
*
The world is my playground. I travel — it’s my job and I have been to almost 50 countries. I’m a flight attendant for a major U.S. carrier, and have been in my awesome career for almost 20 years. Part of my childhood I lived in Bolivia South America, and I’ve become quite addicted to learning about other cultures. As a matter of fact, I prefer to travel off the beaten path, but am especially drawn to third world countries. So, of all the places that I have traveled – from South Africa to Prague, India to Iceland, Portugal to Hawaii – my heart is in Haiti. Haiti, you ask? Of all places? If the world is your playground, why Haiti?
*
I’ll tell you. It’s simple. It’s this little boy with the biggest smile. His smile makes my heart break and melt at the same time. His name is Rija. Simply, without a matter of doubt, this is my child. I fell in love with Rija immediately. It was my second trip to a children’s home Carrefour, Haiti, run by another flight attendant I had got to know at a fundraiser. She invited me multiple times to visit “her kids” and I decided to support her cause by photographing the children engaging in “ Art Day Celebration” – a 3-day arts and crafts event to allow the kids express themselves creatively – and which included about 100 other children in the surrounding community. Once there, I decided that I had to come back to help support her home, but I wasn’t sure how exactly? When I left Haiti that very first time there, I literally handed her all the cash I had in my wallet, saying “you need this WAY more than I do.” The experience of working with these kids for 3 days, honestly, was awesome. But I didn’t want to be one of those tourists who shows up to be a volunteer to “fulfill” my own needs— I needed to make it more sustainable for the kids. Being behind the camera most of the time, I didn’t really get to develop a relationship with any of the kids.
*
It was on my 2nd trip down to Haiti that I met Rija. January of 2015. Rija was brought to the children’s home, with no mother or father. While we don’t know his full story, he had this bloated belly, totally malnourished, and looking pathetic, to be quite honest. He sat on my lap the majority of the time I was there, followed me around, always big grin from ear to ear every time that I pulled my cell phone to take a selfie with him. It was when he fell asleep on my lap that I realized I loved this child more than I had ever loved a child. My husband and I don’t have our own children. That evening, he fell asleep in my lap, and in the meantime pee’d all over me — and I didn’t even mind.
*
Upon our return, my husband and I started sponsoring at least 4 of the children, and we have since become very fond of them all – but it is little Rija that has my heart. Giving, is giving of myself to these children. You see, giving money is a temporary fix. But giving my heart is forever. I give them as much love and hugs as I can when I visit, but I also give them love via WhatsApp phone calls, and they return the love by calling me on my birthday to sing to me, or call me “just because.” It makes my heart explode to see their little smiles, and how far they have come from being sad little children to living in a happy family environment at Kominote Ti Fanmi Nou (Our Small Community of Family) Diakonos International. Since all of this, I have become a huge supporter of the sponsorship program. For all the joy that these children bring ME, and especially the special relationship I have with Rija, I know there are other people out there who would also fall in love with these children after visiting them. So, giving to me, is not only supporting these children financially, but with all the love I have to offer. Rija, I will always be your “Manmi Sherry,” but someday I hope you will call me “mom.”

Hello everyone,

How do I begin to say thank you for such a wonderful trip we all shared. You’ll never know what this means to me to have so many people share the love of all these wonderful children with. The trip is such a success because of all of us. Every year it just gets better with so many new faces and all of us who keep going back. I’ve said it before and I want everyone to know how much we are appreciated at Abatex and Soth.

We are the only group that helps the families at Abatex. Thanks to Jaimie Sheth and her foundation we were able to Bless these families with a feeding shelter. They asked for this so the families didn’t have to eat in the rain with no protection covering them. They feed the families 3 hot meals a week and would like to do more when the funds are there. They are doing a wonderful job building it. With all the storms and set backs, I think they did a great job so far. Keeping them fed helps keep the children off the streets begging and in school, there are many types of human trafficking and if we can help keep these children off the streets it would be wonderful. Education is the only way for them to hopefully make a better life for themselves. We also donated 3 huge bags filled with clothes, shoes, hygiene products, toys, school supplies and cases of treats from Delta. I’m hoping they can use this for Christmas gifts.

Shepherd of the hills is an awesome place for the children to grow up, it’s really becoming self sustainable. They have done so much and continue to grow in their endeavors. The new bakery and restaurant will be a great place for them to work, study a trade and earn money. Nathan and his family have given themselves to Soth and it really shows. Our donation this trip was the cement floor at the school and the beautifully painted butterflies. Along with everything else we did while we were there. We brought about 20 jars of peanut butter for them, lots of candy, cases of cookies from Delta, along with 2 huge bags of things needed. They put them away for gifts at a later time since there wasn’t enough for everyone to get something. We donated the money for the shopping trip with hopes of them picking out their own gifts. I think the children had a wonderful time and we all made some lasting memories for sure. The dancing was awesome, especially you girls for adding your dance in the show.

There are so many people to thank including all of you… A special thank you to Jaimie Sheth for building the feeding shelter for Abatex, it is such a great accomplishment for them. It was always just a dream and now they will be able to help more families. I believe God puts people in our lives for a reason… Hugo met Jaimie then he introduced her to me, we never met in person until this trip. It’s been a very special friendship from the beginning and I hope AAI will be blessed with more opportunities to work with Jaimie and her foundation. From all of us at Airline Ambassadors we appreciate everything you do Jaimie.  Thank you for joining us on the trip.

Another huge thank you to Dr. Meg and her team for all the work they did on all the children and the townspeople. This was the second time they have joined us.  Another miracle by Hugo, he introduced Dr. Meg to us and it’s been so great for Soth. It’s amazing watching them work from morning until night. I’m excited for Soth to have a room at the school with a dental chair and equipment for them to work out of. They will try and visit twice a month once everything is set up. Another huge blessing.

Angels of Hope is a non profit organization who always donates to my trips, those beautiful T-shirts, coloring books and angel cards were donated by them for the children at Abatex.  I’ve been working with Arnie and the staff there for a few years and they always amaze me with their generosity.  We received 100 T-shirts for them and I’m forever grateful in their continued support.  The children love the beautiful colors and the wonderful sayings on them “Making sure they do not feel alone”.

I’m looking forward to Jamie Parke leading the Spring trip, I know it will be a huge success. Dates will be announced soon!  Jamie has studied youth ministry and missions leadership in school and I feel she will be such a great person for this mission.  I still plan on leading the trip in October, together we will make a great team. Chris Davison will continue with the sponsorship program for AAI. This is a very important program since it raises money to help with the children’s education, food, and everyday needs.

Just to let you know that after everything was paid for we donated money to both Abatex and Soth. I had so many people send me money for their sponsor child and also for the feeding shelter. Thanks to everyone who joined our trip, we continue to spread our love in so many ways, it was a pleasure meeting all the new people and making new friends.

Donation to:
Abatex (it cost $450 a month to feed the families 3 meals a week)
$700 cash already gave (many people donated extra from previous trips)
$450 to be sent for the feeding shelter
$200 for his special education needs for Alexis (donation by Debbie J. and myself)
$100 for the little boy who needs medical care (donation by Heather W.)
Almost 3 months of feeding we donated
After I receive the money from the fundraiser I’ll send more ($1200 from this is for the money that was stolen)

Soth
$1900 We already paid for all the projects
$350 to be sent to help with what’s needed

I had a few people who gave extra and I’d like to say a special thank you:
Katherine Panucci
Christine Davison
Vicki Fuerstenau
Debbie Johnson
Gwen Stallworth
Linda Winslow
Heather Williams
Janine Treaty (my good friend who couldn’t make the trip)
Many of the sponsors sent money for their child
So many of my good friends and family donated so much (everyone knows how much these kids mean to me)
Many Delta FA’s who bought their work phones to donate
Delta for so many cases of cookies and allowing me 5 bags to check

I think we did a great job in helping both Abatex and Soth. Thank you so much for your generous hearts and may you all have plenty of Blessings for you and your families.  I hope you all enjoyed this trip as much as I did.  It’s a long way to go but the rewards are so worth it.

Thank you so much for the wonderful trip, I’ll never forget the adventure we all shared and meeting everyone.

All my love,
Cheryl

From Brian O’Riley:

And a special thanks to you, Cheryl!  For putting together such a wonderful trip!  You never cease to amaze me: you never stop moving, and you never stop making sure everyone is alright!

This is our latest CDG trip. Aicha Touahria, CDG AA lead security, Cindi Sinkler, ORD FA, & Joy Heflin, DFW RES QRD agent.

Kathy Garza, ORD AA ticket counter agent  will join Aicha and the two of them will take the little girls to CDG on their way home to Burkina Faso after donated surgery.

These Paris trips are the very most complicated and volunteers need to be flexible.  Poor Kathy had a misconnect on the flight back and didn’t get home until 24 hours after scheduled.  Margaret Whitehead wrote” Kathy is a ticket counter agent in ORD and one of the best escorts we’ve ever had.”
