Medical Escort Program

Airline Ambassadors International provides volunteer escorts for children coming to the United States for medical care that their families cannot afford or is not available in their home countries.

Over the years AAI volunteers have escorted thousands of children.

This program, which is directed by long time volunteer Margaret Whitehead, is a unique and rewarding way for airline personnel to volunteer to act as a guardian for a sick and/or frightened child.

To be a child’s escort, you must be a member of Airline Ambassadors and be eligible for airline passes. It is preferable that you are a current employee and eligible for high priority passes, however, retirees are also welcome. Escort trips range from 1 to 3 days.

The American Airlines “Miles for Kids in Need” program provides free round trip tickets to children coming to the U.S. for donated medical care. We especially want to thank American Airlines for also giving positive space passes to our escorts, which in turn provides considerable savings for our non-profit agency partners who arrange for their care.
